Barbara Jean Wecker

Barbara Jean Wecker, 75, of Cowpens passed away on February 15, 2026.  She was the daughter of the late Tom Smith and Nora McKelvey Roberts.  She was adopted by Sarah and Charles Byers and grew up in their home.  She lost the love her her life, Richard Derthick, in 2006.

She was a truck driver for 40 years.  She loved music, Queen being her favored band and passed her love of music to her daughter.  She led a full life; did all the things she wanted to do and when the time came, she said she was ready.  When asked what she wanted said when she was gone, she said to quote Queen: "Who wants to live forever, cause another one bites the dust".

She is survived by two daughters Jennifer Nielson and Sara McGee; a son David Christopherson; three brothers Jimmy Smith, Tommy Smith and Marshall Smith; five sisters Brenda Smith, Lisa Self, Daisy Fancher, Penny Terry, and Tina Burke; and 12 grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter Miranda Carlisle; three brothers Tommy Shields, Fred Smith and James Smith; and two sisters Elizabeth Blackwell and Rachel Painter.

The family will have a private service.
